Jason Walter Wasn’t at CRBC Vista, CA When Tom Chantry Preached There on 5/29/2016

I added to the following section on the Jason Walter’s Page to show that when Tom Chantry preached at CRBC Vista, CA Jason Walter was preaching at Mountain Reformed Baptist Church in Crestline, CA.  Additions and Jason’s name are in red.

#4 Bulletins from When Tom Chantry Preached at CRBC Vista, CA (5/29/2016), Proof that Jason Walter Preached at Mountain Reformed Baptist Church on 5/29/2016, & Proof that Pastor Jason Walter Knew about the Allegation of Sexual Molestation Against Tom

On 5/29/2016 Thomas Chantry preached at CRBC in Vista, CA.  Pastor Jason Walter had known about the allegation of sexual molestation against Chantry since late January/early February 2016.  Nobody else at CRBC knew about the allegation.  We were members of CRBC Vista, CA (4 voting members in our family), and my husband was a deacon.  Jason Walter was a member of the Membership Committee that recommended CRBC, WI to the 2016 General Assembly.

Why did Jason Walter allow Tom Chantry to preach at CRBC Vista, CA when he knew that Tom was under investigation for molestation?

Why did Jason Walter preach at another church instead of being present at CRBC Vista, CA when Tom Chantry preached there?  Why was his unsuspecting flock put in a vulnerable position?

The bulletin from 5/29/2016 (emailed to the congregation on 5/27/2016) and a photo of the Sermon Audio page.

The Sermon Audio page for the sermon Jason Walter preached at Mountain Reformed Baptist Church in Crestline, CA (now in Lake Arrowhead, CA) and Jason’s sermon.  It can also be found here: https://www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?SID=67162229483 and here: https://web.archive.org/web/20200214203334/www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?SID=67162229483

“We’ll talk about that again in a moment to see how well you did, and if you got the judge that we’re going to be focusing on this morning.” [quote begins at about 1:18]

5/29/2016 Judge Othniel by Jason Walter

This is the page from ARBCA AC Report Part I where it states, “In late January or early February [2016], Mr. Marley informed Jason Walter, a member of the Membership Committee, of the new allegation against Mr. Chantry.”

The bulletin from 5/1/2016 (emailed to the congregation on 4/30/2016) announcing that Thomas Chantry would be the guest preacher on 5/29/2016 to show that Tom Chantry was scheduled at least 1 month ahead of time.

Update to Better Show Connections Between IRBS, ARBCA, and Men Involved with IRBS and Tom Chantry

I edited the following section of the IRBS Seminary, ARBCA, and Tom Chantry Page to better show the connections between IRBS, ARBCA, and men involved with ARBCA and Tom Chantry.  Additions are in red.

#1 IRBS’s Home Page

IRBS’s Home Page (here https://irbsseminary.org/) now states that IRBS is independent.

Independent

On October 1, 2019, the Trustees of IRBS Theological Seminary unanimously approved amended by-laws affirming the independence of the Seminary.”

Why didn’t IRBS Seminary make a statement regarding their reasons for having left ARBCA?

Why did IRBS Seminary leave ARBCA yet remain at an ARBCA church…a church whose elder, Pastor Larry Vincent, was involved with ARBCA and Tom Chantry?

Why did IRBS Seminary leave ARBCA yet remain at an ARBCA church that is so much a part of ARBCA that they hosted ARBCA’s 2020 General Assembly? Here: https://www.arbca.com/arbca2020gaeventbritecom or https://web.archive.org/web/20201103164924/https://www.arbca.com/arbca2020gaeventbritecom

Why does IRBS Seminary offer discounted tuition for TAARBC…a local association that contains churches whose elders (Pastor Bob Curley, Pastor David Dykstra, and Pastor Larry Vincent) were involved with ARBCA and Tom Chantry?

Why does IRBS Seminary offer discounted tuition for TAARBC…a local association in which 7 of their 10 churches belong to ARBCA? Here: https://taarbc.org/ or here: https://web.archive.org/web/20200630173507/https://taarbc.org/ (the page must be viewed on the provided links so you can scroll through the member churches)

“Practical Preparation

Will IRBS Seminary students be interning at any of the TAARBC churches in ARBCA and/or pastored by men who were involved with ARBCA and Tom Chantry?

Men at IRBS Seminary that are still in ARBCA churches (https://www.arbca.com/churches):

James Renihan (President) possibly attends or is a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Mansfield, TX, but there is no bio for him on the IRBS Seminary Website.  Why is there no bio for him?

Men at IRBS Seminary that were involved with ARBCA and Tom Chantry:

  • Jeff Massey (Coordinator of the Doctoral Study Center): On the Membership Committee and AC in 2015/2016, on the Ad Hoc Committee that wrote the ARBCA Reports in 2018, and was the 2019 AC Chairman until his church left ARBCA.

Men at IRBS Seminary that were involved with ARBCA and Tom Chantry but we can’t tell if they are still part of IRBS:

  • Steve Martin (took the Oath of Office as Core Faculty on 9/11/2018 and spoke as Dean of Students of IRBS Seminary on 12/15/2019 but not listed on IRBS’s website)
  • Don Lindblad (listed as a Trustee until the Trustee page disappeared in Summer 2018)
  • Jason Walter (listed as a Trustee until the Trustee page disappeared in Summer 2018)
  • Fred Pugh (listed as a Trustee until the Trustee page disappeared in Summer 2018

Why does IRBS Seminary not list their Dean of Students, Board of Trustees, or Board of Regents anywhere on their website?  Why is the public not being allowed to see if the above men remain part of IRBS Seminary?

Is IRBS no longer under the authority of any association?

How were they able to break the IRBS Project Charter that was signed by Earl M. Blackburn, James M. Renihan, Fred Pugh, and Brandon F. Smith?

This page can be viewed here: https://web.archive.org/web/20200131212947/https://irbsseminary.org/

IRBS Seminary Project Charter added to the IRBS Seminary, ARBCA, and Tom Chantry Page

I added the IRBS Seminary Project Charter to the IRBS Seminary, ARBCA, and Tom Chantry Page.

#7 IRBS Seminary Project Charter

This is the IRBS Seminary Project Charter that was signed on April 26, 2017 at the ARBCA 2017 General Assembly by Earl M. Blackburn, James M. Renihan, Fred Pugh, and Brandon F. Smith.

It can be found here: https://irbsseminary.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Charter-Signed-Edit.jpg or here: https://web.archive.org/web/20200104002145/https://irbsseminary.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Charter-Signed-Edit.jpg

“After nineteen fruitful years of training men for the Christian ministry in cooperation with Westminster Seminary California, the Trustees of IRBS believe that it is time in God’s providence to present to the General Assembly of ARBCA a formal charter for the IRBS Seminary Project.” [Introduction]

“In addition, ARBCA has numerous men who have the experience and qualifications to serve in and assist with the IRBS Seminary Project at various levels.” [Justification for the IRBS Seminary Project]

“The General Assembly of ARBCA votes to approve or to disapprove this project charter.  If approved by the vote of the General Assembly, the charter is signed by the officers designated below.  Once signed, “The General Assembly of ARBCA votes to approve or to disapprove this project charter.  If approved by the vote of the General Assembly, the charter is signed by the officers designated below.  Once signed, this project charter authorizes the tasks described therein and funds the IRBS Seminary Project.  The General Assembly of ARBCA will serve as the sponsor for the IRBS Seminary Project and the Trustees of IRBS will supervise the project under the General Assembly’s oversight.  The Trustees of the IRBS will present a report on the progress of the IRBS Seminary Project at the General Assembly of ARBCA each year.[Approval of the Charter]

This is a picture of the IRBS Seminary Project Charter being signed.  It was taken from the Spring 2017 ARBCA Update [Page 4], which can be downloaded from ARBCA here: https://www.csmedia1.com/arbca.com/sp-2017-arbca-update-final.pdf or from WordPress here: https://ephesians511.home.blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sp-2017-arbca-update-final.pdf

Addition to the IRBS Seminary, ARBCA, and Tom Chantry Page

I added the following section to the IRBS Seminary, ARBCA, and Tom Chantry Page.

#11 IRBS Website: DONATE/Case for Support

The web page can be found here (https://web.archive.org/web/20181014215434/http://irbsseminary.org/case/).

The Case for Support PDF on that web page can be downloaded from this link on that web page (https://web.archive.org/web/20181014215434/http://irbsseminary.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/2-online-case.pdf) or from WordPress (https://ephesians511.home.blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/2-online-case.pdf) .

“In April 2007 the ARBCA General Assembly took the historic step of approving the establishment of a full residential seminary to train men in the work of spreading the Gospel around the world.” [Page 3, left side of page]

“Since its inauguration in 1997, ARBCA has declared training to be one of its main missions; until now it has partnered with Westminster Seminary California to prepare pastors in Reformed Baptist traditions.” [Page 3, 2nd paragraph]

“The vital work of spreading the Gospel compels ARBCA to train men who will pastor sound Biblical churches.  The teachings of the 17th century English Particular Baptists are the traditions to which the seminary will adhere, seeking to train pastors to proclaim the Gospel in its purest form.” [Page 3, 3rd paragraph]

“‘It is an urgent time for America, not just for our group of people, to have a confessional seminary that is overseen by the Association.’ – Walt Chantry” [page 4, left side of page]

“ARBCA can claim the world’s foremost expert in confessional Reformed Baptist doctrine and history in the newly named President of IRBS Theological Seminary, Dr. James M. Renihan.” [Page 4, 1st paragraph]

“In response to God’s providences, ARBCA is committed to establishing a seminary designed to meet the unique requirements of preparing Reformed Baptist pastors, missionaries, church planters and theologians for the continued advancement of Gospel work among the nations.” [Page 4, 3rd paragraph]

The link for the Case for Support page is at the bottom of the Donations page: https://irbsseminary.org/donate/ (if that page doesn’t load properly, try https://irbsseminary.org/donate/?fbclid). However, the page to which the link directs you (https://irbsseminary.org/case) to is gone.

Tedd Tripp: Documents Added

I added the following documents to Tedd Tripp’s Page.

#13 Pre-trial Testimony by Harriet Edson and Connie A. Laver (5/5/2017)

This document is pre-trial testimony given by Harriet Edson and Connie A. Laver (mothers of victims Joseph Edson and Daniel Laver).  Names of the victims redacted or changed to pseudonyms.

Q (SEARS): Okay.  And you didn’t go to the police.  Somebody beat your child so severely that it left

bruises and blisters, you say, blisters?

A (C L): Yes.

Q (SEARS): Okay.  And you didn’t go to the police?

A (C L): I should have.

Q (SEARS): And you didn’t go to the police?

A (C L): I should have.  I did not.  I thought we could handle it internally within the church.

Q (SEAR: Okay.

A (C L): We were promised he would never pastor again.

Q (SEARS): Well, that promise is no where in writing, is it?

A (C L): I guess not, but I never saw the final document.  I, to this day, have not seen the final

document. [page 35, lines 9-22]

#14 Transcript of Day 7 of the First Trial (8/2/2018)

This is a transcript of Day 7 of Tom Chantry’s first trial (8/2/2018).  Some quotes of interest (names of the victims redacted or changed to pseudonyms):

Q (Eazer): After the church council came back and spoke to – we heard that they spoke to the children, some of the parents, other members of the congregation.  Do you remember any of the families being told that Tom Chantry was not going to be pastoring again?

A (Howe): During this process?

Q (Eazer): During or at the end of it.

A (Howe): At the end.  Yes.  I think at the conclusion it was made clear from the council that that would be their recommendation.

Q (Eazer): Do you think the families were assured that the defendant wasn’t going to be a pastor anywhere in the future?

A (Howe): Yes.

Q (Eazer): And did that seem to be something that they wanted assurance for?

A (Howe): Yes. [page 88, lines 1-17]

Q (Eazer): After the church council and this formal investigation was done, were you left with the sense that Tom Chantry wasn’t going to be a pastor anymore?

A (Connie S Laver): Yes. [page 227, lines 8-11]

Q (Eazer): Was it your belief that he wasn’t going to be a pastor anywhere?

A (Owens): Yes.

Q (Eazer): Do you believe that that belief was extended to the parents or they were given some assurances that that wasn’t likely going to happen?

A (Owens): I believe that. [page 257, lines 2-8]

#15 Transcript of Day 8 of the First Trial (8/8/2018)

This is a transcript of Day 8 of Tom Chantry’s first trial (8/8/2018).  Some quotes of interest (names of the victims redacted or changed to pseudonyms):

Q (Eazer): Okay, but I guess what I was getting to is were you and your wife assured that he was not going to be pastoring any further?

A (Tyler Walsh): Yes. [page 177, lines 6-9]

Q (Eazer): All right.  Was there much discussion at the time about whether or not anyone would make a report to the police if you recall?

A (Tyler Walsh): There was – basically there was discussion if we did see that we needed to go to the police, that we could, but that they would handle this as a church matter and if we were good with that, that’s how they would like to handle it. [page 177, lines 10-17]

#16 Transcript of Tom Chantry’s Sentencing (7/19/2019)

This is the transcript from Tom Chantry’s sentencing on 7/19/2019.  Some quotes of interest; all are Judge Astrowsky addressing Tom Chantry:

“The church council was ill-equipped to do this type of investigation. They should have involved the police at that time, as should have others. Unfortunately, that didn’t occur.” [Page 68, lines 2-5]

“The defendant took advantage of his position of trust and authority. He used his role as pastor – he knew that Mark came from a strict religious family — to convince the child that he deserved the abuse; it was God’s will and the child would suffer eternally if he resisted and/or told anyone. The defendant manipulated the victim’s parents so that he could be alone with the child.” [Page 73, lines 8-15]
